The 2023 Annual Report is available online
The AO Alliance 2023 Annual Report is now available, detailing a year of noteworthy progress in our mission to improve trauma care in 35 low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. The report features success stories about patients treated by our faculty of active surgeons in Cambodia, Cameroon, Malawi, and Uganda. Our outreach work in remote areas ensures that the injured have access to appropriate care, preventing disability and further financial hardship.
Among the achievements of the year was the opening of the new Lilongwe Institute of Orthopaedics and Neurosurgery (LION) in Lilongwe, Malawi, a significant milestone in our efforts to provide accessible and high-quality surgical care.
Education and training remain at the heart of our mission. In 2023 alone, the AO Alliance trained over 7,000 healthcare workers during 301 educational events. This brings our cumulative total since 2015 to over 41,000 healthcare workers trained in fracture management through 1,276 educational events. These educational initiatives are critical to building local capacity and ensuring sustainable improvements in care of the injured.
The report also highlights our commitment to promoting clinical research. By fostering a culture of evidence-based practice, we aim to continuously improve the standards of fracture care in the countries we serve.
The 2023 Annual Report speaks to the dedication of our leadership, central and regional teams, and partners, and the generosity of our donors. We invite you to read it and learn about the impact of caring for the injured.
