Surgeons gather in Ho Chi Minh City for Advanced Operative Fracture Management course

06 March 2019

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. November 23-25, 2018. Over the course of two days, 60 surgeons from across Vietnam attended the Advanced Principles in Operative Fracture Management course held at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City.

The course was led by a team of educators from Vietnam, Nepal, Thailand, Myanmar and Cambodia who delivered lectures on surgical best practices based on AO Principles, the gold standard in fracture care. Participants were then divided into discussion groups to examine complicated patient cases and come up with appropriate treatment solutions. Practical workshops enabled the participants to apply the techniques they learned about on artificial limbs with surgical tools under the guidance of the educators.

Among the lessons learned were: fracture reduction techniques with attention to soft tissues, strategies for treating open fractures, and recognizing and managing complications.

The event, which was led by 19 national educators and six regional educators, had great turnout and was a tremendous success. The young surgeons were very keen to actively participate and pick the brains of their educators (figuratively speaking, of course).
