The c-arm image intensifier for Hawassa, Ethiopia is fully funded and operational

13 December2021

The Johnson & Johnson Foundation and private donors have generously responded to our call for donations to purchase a c-arm for the Hawassa University Comprehensive Specialized Hospital in Ethiopia.

This investment builds on our earlier investment in the T&O team in Hawassa, led by Dr Ephrem Gebrehana and his team (pictured above and below), and strengthens the broader Ethiopia Country Initiative to improve care of the injured. The c-arm will help enhance surgical capacity of a key hospital serving a catchment area of 18 million people.

“The c-arm has transformed our department as a whole and myself and my colleagues as individual surgeons. We are now operating daily on complex surgeries with less invasive approaches.” – Dr Ephrem Gebrehana, Orthopedic Trauma Division Chief.
