About the AO Alliance
The AO Alliance is a development non-profit organization dedicated to improving fracture care for patients in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). We were founded in
December 2014 with the support of the AO, the world’s pioneer in the field of orthopedics and musculoskeletal disorders, and the Wyss Medical Foundation.
Our flagship programs, Fracture Solutions for Africa and Fracture Solutions for Asia, deliver needs-based face-to-face training at national and regional levels to surgeons, operating room personnel (ORP) and other healthcare workers in operative and nonoperative
fracture management. Participants learn to deliver appropriate and quality care to their patients through lectures, discussion groups and practical workshops.
On average, we deliver 40 educational events and train 2,000 healthcare workers a year.
Our Country Initiatives are our most comprehensive and ambitious endeavours so far. They address the following gaps in LMICs: lack of infrastructure, lack of human resources, lack of training and lack of data. Our first country initiatives are in Ethiopia, The Gambia, Ghana and Malawi.
