Fracture care course supported by donated workstations in Dar es Salaam
The AO Alliance has contributed to orthopedic education in Tanzania by donating 10 workstations to facilitate fracture care training in the country. A course on the basic principles of operative fracture management drew high-level attention in May 2025, with visits from both Dr Mpoki Ulisubisya, Executive Director of the Muhimbili Orthopaedic Institute (MOI), and Dr Anthony Assey, Director of Orthopedics and Trauma. The AO Alliance had recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the prestigious institution.
The course served a dual purpose, functioning as a comprehensive training program to improve fracture care in Tanzania and as a platform for the AO Alliance coaching program. This integration allowed hands-on learning for participants using the donated equipment while the faculty received personalized mentorship from experienced professionals.
The event exemplified the AO Alliance’s commitment to developing sustainable educational programs on fracture care in underserved regions. Through a combination of infrastructure support, innovative coaching initiatives, and collaboration with local institutions, the AO Alliance is strengthening orthopedic education and care.
This successful collaboration between the AO Alliance and MOI demonstrates the value of targeted educational investment in strengthening healthcare systems and training skilled surgeons who serve their communities.
