Prof. Shanmuganathan Rajasekaran joined the AO Alliance Board of Directors at the beginning of 2022, adding to the board’s diverse subject-matter expertise, ranging from surgical to economic development.
“While there have been rapid advances in new technologies and instrumentations in trauma and orthopedic surgery, they are often irrelevant to most of the world’s population, either due to cost or lack of availability. A solution, however good it is, is not a good solution unless it is affordable and accessible. Added to the problem of limited resource availability, is the lack of adequate training for both medical and paramedical staff in many countries.  I am deeply impressed by the work performed by the AO Alliance in training healthcare workers where the need is great,” says Rajasekaran.
In addition to being on the AO Alliance board, Rajasekaran chairs the Department of Orthopaedics, Trauma, and Spine Surgery at Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore, India which is currently one of the largest orthopedic specialty hospitals in South Asia.
“It is a privilege to join the board of the AO Alliance and I look forward to participating in all activities by providing hands-on training to surgeons and paramedical staff from all regions that are in need,” concludes Rajasekaran.
His impressive resumé includes hundreds of publications, numerous awards, and initiatives to improve care of the injured.
