AO Alliance faculty apply for AO Trauma Innovation in Education Award

From the moment all face-to-face educational events were put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, the AO Alliance pivoted to mobilize its network of faculty to design quality online educational resources and events to care for the injured.

We are proud to announce that our French-speaking Africa faculty ”“ Dr Florent Anicet Lekina (Cameroon), Prof. Patrick Dakouré (Burkina Faso) and Dr Abalo Anani (Togo) ”“ have applied for the AO Trauma Innovation in Education Award for online educational content.

Under the supervision of Dr Lekina (AO Alliance Steering Committee Chair for French-speaking Africa) and Claude Martin jr. (AO Alliance Managing Director), the team put in place an online education platform consisting of 10 modules on fracture care in French in May 2020.

The content showcases 10 musculoskeletal trauma themes relevant to low- and middle-income countries, with each module comprising a short bibliography, a recorded lecture on the topic, practical videos, and an evaluation quiz. The platform has been of great value for keeping surgeons, residents and operating room personnel in French-speaking sub-Saharan Africa engaged and interested in the field of trauma during these challenging times for all. To date, five modules have been made available ”“ the remaining five have been scheduled for release later this year.
