Raising awareness among motorcycle taxi and tricycle taxi drivers in Togo
A one-day awareness-raising seminar dedicated to motorcycle taxi and tricycle taxi drivers was held in Lomé on November 29, 2025, bringing together 53 drivers from 13 different municipalities in Greater Lomé. The activity was organized in the presence of several relevant authorities from the road safety sector, notably Divisional Commissioner Agba Tassa, representing the Minister of Security; Étienne Lawson, representative of the Director General of POOL; and Togbui Lanklivi Adjikou, First Quartier Chief.
Togbui Lanklivi Adjikou launched the seminar by welcoming the participants. Grégoire Anani Abalo, national lead of AO Alliance Togo, delivered a goodwill address. Agba Tassa then officially opened the discussions.
Three discussion sessions took place. The first session examined the current state of road traffic accidents in Togo, highlighting the challenges and possible solutions. Drivers were sensitized to the importance of ethics and professional conduct in the practice of their profession, particularly with regard to passenger safety and compliance with traffic regulations. Finally, participants discussed the challenges encountered in caring for victims of road accidents and the importance of insurance in ensuring better protection for both drivers and passengers.
At the end of the day, all participating drivers received a safety helmet. This initiative was organized by Romel Awate, who coordinates media coverage of AO Alliance Togo’s activities.
The event aimed to strengthen road safety and promote better professional ethics among motorcycle taxi and tricycle taxi drivers. It is part of a broader effort focused on awareness-raising and continuous training to improve safety on Togolese roads.
